“ARIZONA” MUSIC VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In April of 2010, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 which is a legislative act that serves as an anti-immigration law and mandates US citizens to carry registration documents with them at all times. With the backing of this law, Arizona State Police are legally allowed to stop anyone that they “suspect” is an immigrant. Governor Jan Brewer stated that, “We have to trust our law enforcement.” However, these “suspects” are typically brown and black folks. The law highly encourages racial profiling, harassment, and discrimination toward immigrant families.

In opposition to Arizona’s SB 1070, Navegante and Intikana have teamed up to create a song that speaks on behalf of the immigrants’ perspective as the United States was founded and built by immigrants. In showing how this law is affecting the entire country, Intikana traveled to Immokalee, Florida where he met Benito and Carmela. A humble and very loving couple from Mexico who pick tomatoes in the fields to feed their son Luis. Their story is the centerpiece to this documentary/music video and exposes the often neglected horrors of exploited cheap labor.

“This music video means so much to us as we have very strong feelings on the subject. Meeting Benito and his family changed a lot for me. With all the heart and love we have to give, Navegante and I present to you our music video for Arizona.” -Intikana
